Himalayan salt is rock salt (halite) mined from the Punjab region of modern Pakistan from the heart of the Himalayan Mountains. The salt often has a pinkish tint due to it's mineral content.
Having precipitated in subsiding rift basins along the edge of Gondwanaland between 600 and 540 million years ago, it is an amazingly pure salt untouched by pollutants and toxins. Himalayan salt is chemically similar to table salt (98% sodium chloride), and naturally rich in many nutrients and elements, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron (which contribute to it's pink color). You can reap the benefits of these elements by adding this richer-tasting salt to your food or by taking a relaxing mineral bath to rejuvenate your skin and body. Himalayan salt is said to be an advantageous substitute for table salt and adds a much richer flavor to your food.
